Elite Skill Capping - Healer's Covenant - Gate of Fear
Hey guys and Gals
Maybe some are in the same boat as me.
I am finding it extremely annoying to try to cap Healer's Covenant.
Firstly, you spawn directly into a mob of shadow warriors, eles, rangers and 1 monk.
if you get pawned, you res in a shrine further up.
then cross a transparent bridge and before you get to the cathedral type structure there are 3 mobs very close together.
a bunch of rain of terrors, spears and 2 shadow of fear necros in one group, a bunch of margonites with a dervish boss and another bunch of monsters as aforementioned.
i have found it impossible to get past these three mobs without getting 60dps as the necros use jagged bones and there are a constant source of minnions every time i get pawned.
i have tried different combinations of builds like bonder, smiter, prot. tried it with hench and 5 mates and still nothing.
Sucks big time.
(oh yes another complaint - sorry but its true)

Take the secondary route. Longer, but a lot easier.
Don't go across the soul bridge, but turn right.
Keep going on with the canyon on your left, and you will find another bridge.
Cross it, go left, and the boss should be right there.

Pulling is your friend. You can get each group by themselves and should be able to manage them (this is what I did to cap that skill). Just watch their patrols and pull when they aren't all in the same area.

Its doable with heros/hench because I capped it with them. Don't know which path I took but I managed it somehow.

Try it with ranger hench (Margrid) with Broad Head Arrow, and a few interrupts.

Using only henchies it's easy.
As you zone in immediatly walk back and hide between the statues next to the partol. Spawning spot is a few steps away from the portal. Use the flags to keep your henchmen there and pull each group carefully. Kill them.
Walk up the soul bridge and position your henchmen at 1/3 or even the start of it. Grab out a longbow and shoot the closest enemy, run to your henchies. Due to the great GW AI only half a group will follow you, or in the case of margonites only 2. Your henchies can kill these without your help :P. Continue pulling them one by one until they're all dead.
Boss is a short while away from here. Getting to the boss isn't very hard. Once you reach the boss attack him with everything you have. He should go down pretty fast. He only uses breeze, healing touch and heal party to heal himself. Due to the 25% less healing from covenant it's not that hard to take him down if you keep your henchies healed. Ignore the words of madness, they're smiting monks. They only use signet of devotion and reversal of damage.

signet of devotion heals...
and he has an army of torment creatures... even with four monks they can't keep up with the environmental malus while pounding the boss and getting pounded by Rain of Terror, Blade of Corruption, Spear of Torment...
even with an SS hero... the monk boss is simply impossible...
i can manage to get to the boss without DP but the boss is simply impossible!

Stop throwing around words like "impossible" when it clearly isn't.
Bring caster shutdown. Hex stack them, interrupt them, knock them down, daze them, whatever. I won't claim that killing a monk boss with other high-level monks around is trivial, but it's not unreasonably difficult either.
Also, if you have 4 monks in your party, you are doing something Very Wrong.

I finnaly managed to cap this elite after a lot of hard work!
I took the path as sugessted by Mahanaxar which is, in comparison to the bridge by the res shrine, easier but by no means 'a piece of cake'.
This nice boss had with him 2 shadow of fear monsters, 1 terror scythe, 1 blade thing and 1 herald.
My team was comprised of a guild mate (echo ss) myself and hench men and general morgan.
it took us nearly an hour to kill those blasted MM thingies with their Jagged bones skills and then we managed to pick off the other 3 and when it was just the boss, it went down fairly quickly.
Although I agree that nothing is impossible here in guild wars within the parametres of what the creators do, it is by far one of the most hardest elites I have ever capped.
Well I close by saying a big thank you to all you guys who contributed to this thread and particlarly to Sirius my guild mate who endeavoured to help me cap this elite.

Just setup a very defensive team(I had 2 monks and 2 paragons, along with a melee shutdown necro) and bring Margrid along with Broad Head Arrow. Once you get to him, your team should be able to handle the pressure and taking him down will be no problem so long as he is dazed.

Guys Guys, when you say impossible all you mean is unknowable.
What is the best caster shutdown class ? Mesmer offcourse. Any good mesmer can 1vs1 with ANY kind of prof really. So pick Norgu, give him an nice energy burning, interrupting skillset and of you go. Offcourse both ranger hero's with broad head arrow, distraction shot and savage shot helps against casters too

i'm a monk, and i'm always with Koss (sword), Master of Wispers (SS), Olias (MM), Cynn, Sogolon, Mhenlo and Khim...
the only time i remember to change this group (aside doing hero-specific quests) was to capture Pain of Disenchantment at Vejin Mines, and only because you can't have Master of Wispers for the boss to appear...
i found it very easy to cap Healer's Covenant with this set up, using the "back way", i can handle the pressure and do enough damage to the boss...

i said impossible because i can't do it...
i have four monks... IA monks... i often see 3 or 4 healing spells being cast on me when i just lost 30 health...
anyways...i seem to be very unlucky... because when i find the guy he is always with a word of madness... two scythes...a blade and a rain terror...

Norgu plus Power block/drain/spike/leak = gg
if you use koss give him 2 interupts. or melonni. give her distracting blow.
4 monks is 2 monks too many.
you're dying because you're not killing anything. there damage soon overcomes your healing and prot.
drop 2 monks and take 2 damages dealers. the monks will just have to work harder.
if you're using a ranger. use choking gas and flurry plus 3 interupts plus broahdhead arrow. you stay on one caster and stop it asting. let norgu take another. then let your damage dealers beat up on someone else.
easy
